DIY Troubleshooting

Is your machine not extracting as well as it once was? You can perform some basic checks on your own to ascertain if there is another issue other than basic maintenance.

Remove the Grouphead Dispersion screen. You can do this by getting a small stubbie flat blade screw driver and lever it down gently around the circumference of the Dispersion Screen.
Once the Screen and the Head seal are off, inspect the screen for coffee build-up. If this is significant replace it, check the head seal for cracks or hardness by squeezing it together, clean the head seal.
Put them back in place, Dispersion Screen then the Head seal (the clean surface of the head seal should come in contact with the portafilter handle).
Remove the basket from your portafilter and then put the portafilter handle in the head and work the Portafilter back and forth until there is no more room to move the Handle, place the basket back in the Portafilter and repeat.
